BrightTeach – Specialist SEND Tuition and Alternative Provision
Personalised education for children and young people aged 4–25 in Nottinghamshire
Overview
BrightTeach is an approved alternative education provider specialising in personalised, one-to-one tuition for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including those unable to access or fully engage in mainstream education.
Working in partnership with Local Authorities, schools, families and other professionals, we deliver flexible education packages designed to re-engage learners, rebuild confidence, support academic progress and develop the personal, social and emotional skills needed for successful transitions.
Our approach is relationship-led, placing each learner's strengths, needs, interests and aspirations at the centre of their education.
Who We Support
BrightTeach supports children and young people aged 4–25 with a range of needs and circumstances, including:
- Learners with SEND, including autism, ADHD, speech, language and communication needs, learning difficulties and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Children and young people experiencing emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), anxiety or difficulties engaging in education.
- Learners who are out of education, awaiting a suitable placement or requiring interim provision.
- Children and young people with medical or emotional needs that affect school attendance.
- Learners at risk of exclusion or requiring support to reintegrate into mainstream or specialist education.
We recognise that many learners have experienced significant disruption to their education. Our priority is to build trusting relationships and create a safe, supportive environment where they can re-engage and succeed.
What We Offer
Personalised One-to-One Tuition
Our bespoke tuition is tailored to each learner's needs, abilities and educational aspirations. Tutors adapt teaching approaches, resources and pace to make learning accessible, engaging and meaningful.
Our flexible curriculum includes English, maths, science and other academic subjects, alongside Functional Skills, GCSE preparation, AQA Unit Awards, practical life skills and Preparation for Adulthood, according to individual needs and tutor availability. Examination entry is arranged through an appropriate examination centre.
Specialist SEND Support and Tutor Matching
Our dedicated in-house SEND Team works closely with commissioners, families and professionals to understand each learner's needs and carefully match them with an appropriately skilled and experienced tutor.
Our tutors use personalised, neurodiversity-aware and trauma-informed approaches, adapting teaching and learning environments to support engagement, emotional wellbeing and progress.
Flexible Education Packages
Tuition can be delivered at home, in school, in suitable community venues or online, depending on individual needs, suitability and agreed arrangements.
Sessions are normally available Monday to Friday, with frequency, duration and timetables agreed individually. Where appropriate, tuition can begin with shorter sessions and increase gradually as confidence and engagement develop.
Our Approach to Learning and Progress
Every learner has an individualised education plan with clear, measurable targets linked to their needs, agreed educational outcomes and, where relevant, longer-term Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.
Our approach focuses on:
- Re-engagement: Rebuilding confidence, positive relationships with education and consistent participation.
- Academic progress: Addressing gaps in learning, developing knowledge and skills, and working towards qualifications where appropriate.
- Personal and social development: Building independence, resilience, communication, emotional regulation and wellbeing.
- Preparation for transition: Developing the confidence, skills and readiness for reintegration, further education, training or employment.
Progress is regularly monitored through attendance, engagement, learning and achievement, with updates shared with commissioners in accordance with agreed reporting arrangements.
Quality Assurance and Safeguarding
We are committed to delivering safe, effective and high-quality education.
Our SEND Team provides tutor guidance and oversight, monitors learner progress and reviews provision to ensure it remains responsive to individual needs.
Safeguarding, risk assessment, learner feedback and regular communication with families and commissioners are integral to our approach.
Supporting Reintegration and Successful Transitions
We recognise that alternative provision should provide a purposeful pathway towards a learner's next stage of education or life.
Working collaboratively with schools, Local Authorities, families and other professionals, we support planned transitions into mainstream or specialist education, further education or other appropriate pathways.
This may include rebuilding confidence, establishing positive learning routines, supporting gradual reintegration and sharing successful teaching approaches with receiving settings.
Transitions are personalised and informed by learner voice, individual needs and readiness.
Times and availability
Monday to Friday
Tuition is arranged around each learner's needs, the availability of an appropriately matched tutor and the provision agreed with the commissioning school or local authority. Session frequency, duration and timetables are agreed individually.
Where sessions take place
BrightTeach offers flexible learning environments, depending on individual needs, suitability and agreed arrangements.
Tuition may take place:
- At home: For learners who benefit from a familiar learning environment.
- At school: Supporting individual learning or planned reintegration.
- In community venues: Including libraries and suitable community spaces, helping learners develop confidence and independence.
- Online: Where remote learning is appropriate and accessible.
For learners experiencing significant disengagement, provision may initially involve shorter or fewer sessions, with opportunities to increase tuition hours and learning expectations as confidence and engagement develop, subject to commissioner agreement.
Learning environments are considered during referral and planning, taking account of individual preferences, safeguarding requirements and relevant risk assessments.

Referrals and Accessing Our Provision
BrightTeach provides commissioned specialist SEND tuition and alternative provision across Nottinghamshire, subject to individual suitability and tutor availability.
Referrals are normally made through schools or Local Authorities. Our SEND Team reviews each learner's needs, educational history, relevant EHCP information and intended outcomes before identifying a suitable tutor and agreeing a personalised education package.
Once provision is agreed, we work with families, commissioners and relevant professionals to establish the tuition plan, delivery arrangements and appropriate support.
Families interested in our provision are encouraged to speak with their child's school, SENCO or Local Authority caseworker.
