Dementia Hub - Sherwood & Bestwood

A welcoming space where people affected by dementia can access emotional, practical and social support

Overview

3rd Wednesday of every month, 1:00PM - 3:00PM

Nottingham City Council is working with the Alzheimer’s Society and the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS) to deliver a new Dementia Hub at the Winwood Heights retirement living community in in Sherwood.

Dementia Hubs offer support to people living with dementia and those who care for them, and provide a welcoming space where people affected by dementia can access emotional, practical and social support, whatever stage of their journey they are at.

The hubs offer information and guidance for family members, friends and carers, as well as advice on local services, planning for the future, maintaining quality of life and helping to prevent situations from reaching crisis point.

Winwood Heights is one of Nottingham City Council’s flagship retirement living communities. It includes the high-rise Winchester and Woodthorpe Courts, plus Winwood Court, which links the two towers.

A dementia diagnosis can bring lots of questions and uncertainty, not just for the person living with dementia but for their family, friends and carers too. Having a friendly, local place where people can come along, talk to someone and get practical advice can make a real difference.

Many of the Council’s retirement living communities are designed to be accessible and welcoming places for older people, and many incorporate Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation (HAPPI) design principles to support residents who are living with dementia, as well as residents who care for someone with dementia.

Sessions run on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1pm to 3pm in the Community Room at Winwood Court, Chestnut Walk, Nottingham, NG5 4BQ. Everyone is welcome and the sessions are free to attend. There is some parking available on site.
