Learning Support Team (SEND Inclusion Support Services)

We are a team of specialist teachers who work with all schools in Nottingham City to ensure that children and young people (CYP) with special educational needs are able to access an appropriate curriculum and are able to participate fully in school life, whilst also achieving to their maximum potential.

We believe that by working closely with you, your child and all professionals involved, your child will have a better chance of feeling confident and fully included in their school and local community.

What do we do?

  • We can support schools in identifying your child’s special learning need.
  • We can support the school in setting realistic targets for your child, and provide strategies and resources to help them meet their targets.
  • We can observe your child in school, then work with and train the school staff to make sure that your child’s needs are met.

Training could include:

  • Down’s Syndrome Awareness
  • Communication - Signs and symbols
  • Dyslexia Awareness
  • Social Skills
  • Equipment and software
  • We can work closely with you and the school on your child’s independence/life skills e.g. dressing, toileting, value of money, where you live. Making sure that we are all doing and saying the same things.
  • We can help with your child’s move between schools, giving school staff information and ideas on how they can support your child.

How do we work?

  • We can work with your child if:
    • you live in the city of Nottingham and/or your child attends a Nottingham City School.
    • your child has been identified as having a significant learning need
  • We have a named teacher in every City school and teaching assistants who can work individually with your child.
  • We work mainly in schools alongside your child’s Teacher and Teaching assistants.

Who can refer to our service?

Referrals can come from the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) at your child’s school or educational setting.
