National Federation of the Blind of the UK (NFBUK) - Nottingham Branch

Working for a better, fairer and more accessible Nottingham

Nottingham is a city with a lot to offer to those who live, work in and visit it. We need your support to ensure that it is also a great place for blind, partially sighted and deaf-blind people too.

We champion access and equality across the city and county, ensuring that people with a visual impairment (or sight loss) can enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else. Join us and help us make a difference.

Who are we?

We are a local group of blind, partially sighted and deaf-blind people of all ages. The Nottingham Branch is one of the local branches making up NFBUK.

What do we do?

  • Work with disability groups and other organisations to raise issues and campaign for better rights and services for disabled people and other equality groups at local and national level.
  • Share our experiences and support each other.
  • Occasionally arrange speakers at our monthly meetings.
  • Represent the views of blind, partially sighted and deaf-blind people on decision making committees run by health, social care, local government and other service providers.
  • Hold some social gatherings.

You don’t have to be a member to come to our meetings and find out what we do.

Where and when do we meet?

Nottingham Branch meet at an accessible and easy to reach city centre venue. Our friendly meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month from 7 – 9pm and you are welcome to join us for a pre or post meeting drink. It’s a great way to meet new people and make friends.

Who can join?

Blind, deaf-blind or partially sighted people over the age of 16 can take up full membership, we also welcome anyone with additional impairments. Anyone else interested in issues affecting people with a visual impairment are welcome as Associate Members. All Branch Members receive meeting minutes, national correspondence and details of all our activities in the format of their choice. Members also receive national newsletters.
