Video Games, Pub Quizzes, Board Games, Karaoke, Movies - Sunday Social hosted by aebal

What is the Sunday Mash?

The Sunday Mash is a monthly social event hosted by aebal. It's at Fellows, Morton and Clayton on Canal street in Nottingham city centre and starts at 1pm and usually finishes around 4pm.

UPCOMING SUNDAY MASH DATES:

January Mash: 20th January (Activities - Gaming screens, Board Game Corner, Movie on the Projector upstairs)

February Mash: 24th February (Activities - Interactive Pub Quiz, Special Guests)

March Mash: 24th March (Activities - DJ Turbo! Gaming Screens, Board Game Corner

"After listening to the people who access our daily activities, we decided that there was a real need to create a larger monthly event where people could meet and socialise on a Sunday!

The Mash is an extension of the aebal ethos and approach to social support; providing a variety of fun activities, an open and friendly atmosphere and a mainstream venue where people can feel part of their community.

The activities will vary each month and include things such as video gaming, karaoke, pub quizzes (and prizes!), board games, movies, music, Sky Sports and, potentially, speed dating!

The venue is great as it has an upstairs and also two distinct downstairs areas so we are able to cater for people that like noise and talking and also for those who don’t! There is also food and drink available in the main bar area.

The key outcome for The Sunday Mash and all our support is to provide people with meaningful experiences and meaningful relationships so they feel comfortable, confident and happy to express who they are!

The Mash is also a great way to get a feel for the support we offer and a chance to meet all the people involved with aebal. Get in touch with us asap if you’re interested as spaces are limited"

How do I get involved in the Sunday Mash?

The Sunday Mash is available to people inside and outside of the service. As with all of our support, it’s aimed at people over 18 with mental health problems, autism and learning disabilities. We ask for a £12 contribution per person which covers the activities, equipment, venue and the company of our wonderful staff for 3 hours! Special rate of £5 if it's your first Mash!

If you are already an aebal client then we can invoice at the end of the month as usual (as a ‘Groups’ activity) or if you are outside of the service then you can pay in advance online or alternatively you can pay on the day in old fashioned paper money. The paying on the day option is also available to aebal clients however it is essential that everyone pre- books before showing up!

We want to ensure that everyone has a chance to engage in the activities, meet new people and enjoy themselves. The Sunday Mash is not a day time disco! Repeat, not a day time disco! We understand that a lot of people want to socialise but without all the noise! We use a guestlist system (not one of those pretentious ones) so that we know how many people to expect, we have the right number of staff to support everyone’s needs and there is the time and space for people to form genuine friendships.

Unlike other events of this nature we will be providing all the support (we’re very good at this stuff!) and do not expect carers or parents to attend unless there are specialist needs that require additional support or constant one to one support. We want parents and carers to have some much-deserved respite on a Sunday too!

All we ask is that prior to booking, we must be contacted (either by phone or email) to provide us with the name, phone number, parent / carer contact details and a summary of support requirements for each person attending. We will securely record this data (refer to our GDPR policies!) and share with all staff running The Mash.

Notes

With our daily activities we can provide car transportation from home to various session locations. With The Sunday Mash, however, we are encouraging attendees to travel to the venue independently by public transport or to be dropped off. Handily, there is a small cobbled carpark just next to the venue shared by FMC and Canal house so nice and easy for a city centre drop off!
