On The Ball - Men's Physical & Wellbeing Support group

On The Ball is for men aged 18- 55years, the project is football based and aims to bring meant together to reduce social isolation, improve fitness and improve our health. We normally run on a Wednesday at 12:00-1:30 at The Portland centre in the Meadows and do some warm ups, some football drills and play some 5 aside football. Every couple of weeks we hold team talks (20 minutes to half an hour) in which discuss issues related to our health and wellbeing we all feel are relevant to us for example managing our stress, eating a healthy diet etc. The programme is really about connecting with other people and playing football together, making friends and supporting each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re a good player or have never played before do come along.

Difference it makes –  It helps to build self-esteem, self-confidence, aware and learn about your own wellbeing and help to give you coping strategies’, meet new people, build positive friendships, be a part of a supportive group, improves overall health, boost energy levels, personal development, building resilience, improve football skills, improve communication, learn how to be part of a team
