More about us
The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in Nottingham City currently offers support across over 70 schools and colleges within the city. This team is part of a project funded by the NHS to make sure that Children in both Primary and Secondary schools, as well as colleges gain timely mental health support they need and deserve.
MHST’s have three core functions:
1) They offer evidence-based support for mild-to-moderate mental health issues.
2) Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP’s) and a team of specialist practitioners assist the Senior Mental Health Lead in schools and colleges to create or develop a whole school or college approach.
3) Provide timely guidance to education staff and connect with specialists to ensure children and young people receive the right support and stay in education.

What we offer – Information for Children & Young People
We offer interventions that have been shown to help support children and young people overcome difficulties with their mental health and wellbeing. These may be offered on a 1-1 basis or with your parents/caregivers.
Most of our interventions use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approaches. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a type of therapy that focusses on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour and how these three things interact.
Here is a link which gives a nice overview of accessing CBT from the perspective of a young person. A film about Children and Young People's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme (CYP IAPT) by young people from Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.
