What is Young Parents Connect?
Young Parents Connect is a peer support approach to mental health prevention within community settings. It is for young mums and dads up to the age of 25 years and their children. The group offers a weekly themed drop-in session providing a range of relevant & engaging discussions around different topics, activities and guest speakers (Health Visitor, Ways to work etc.). Young Parents Together Groups are run Citywide within Family Hubs.
How a Sessions Runs:
- Each week has a different planned theme for example: safety with in the home, sun safe, mental health etc.
- Information packs are provided on each theme for example home safety contains information on correct storage of cleaning products, use of stair gates, checking smoke alarms, numbers parents can contact for support.
- Lunch together to build up friendships and social interaction
- Weekly quiz – where parents work together to building confidence and knowledge.
- Activities for parents and children.
- Parent journals
- Containment is offered throughout the session for parents to share any worries, concerns, questions they may have whether that is about their children or their own mental health.
- Singing/story time
Light Lunch is provided.
